South East Wales Cricket League Division One - Chepstow (124 all out) Abergavenny (154-8). Abergavenny won by 30 runs

CHEPSTOW CC suffered a home defeat at Mathern Road after failing to overtake Abergavenny’s modest total.

After winning the toss, home skipper Jason Dobbie decided to field first and that decision seemed to be a good one when Luke Watson removed opener William Glenn for a duck and Sam Hope-Bell had the other opener Morgan Bevans (21) stumped by wicket keeper Gareth Ansell.

But a battling 55 by Adam Harrison steadied the innings before he became Hope-Bell’s third victim after earlier dismissing Gareth Burkitt, caught by Luke Watson for 10 runs.

Dobbie trapped Lewis Holley (15) lbw, Malith Madurasinghe had Sam Clarke (11) caught by Lewys Jones and Ansell claimed another stumping to remove Ben Davies off Tudor Morgan-Huggett’s bowling as Abergavenny posted 154-8.

Hope-Bell finished with bowling figures of 10-0-3-29 and Dobbie had 2-18 with two maidens in his 10 overs.

In reply, Madurasinghe departed without scoring and although fellow opener Ansell (26) and Dave Bennett (26) had starts, neither were able to build a score, losing partners at regular intervals as Chepstow slumped to 124 all out.
