ROB Weir returns to competitive driving after a break of almost two years when he takes the immaculate Weir Rally Team Triumph TR7V8 over to the SOL Rally Barbados.

The event, which takes place over the last weekend of May, will be the first event back for the Chepstow driver after his huge accident on the 2013 Woodpecker Stages.

Having undergoing major neck surgery, alongside recovering from other injuries sustained, it has been a long path back to fitness, but his enthusiasm for the sport never dwindled and he can't wait to get going.

"Its been a very long and painful road to recovery but my aim was to bring the TR back to Barbados after it was so well received here two years ago."

The event has attracted nearly 100 competitors worldwide, with a very high quality entry including former Ford and Suzuki factory driver Toni Gardemeister in the Simpson Motors Suzuki SX4 WRC, former winner Paul Bird in his Focus WRC, local expert Roger Skeete in the Subaru S12, with fellow returnees Jeff Panton and John Powell in a pair of Focus WRC's.

Last years runner-up Rob Swann also returns, as does Roger Duckworth with Ross Weir on the notes.

The three day event features 22 tough and demanding stages, with the famous King of the Hill event kicking off proceedings over the weekend of May 23/24th, which is an ideal test and taster to what lies ahead.

Co-driving for Rob Weir will be Paul Willetts who is on his third trip to the rally, but this will be his first as a competitor.

"Its great to be able to do the rally with Rob, I have been out twice before and really enjoyed the event.

"The people in Barbados are so enthusiastic about motorsport, and its really good to see such a high quality entry.

"Its going to be hard work between events with the recce, and its been a very long time since I wrote my own pace notes, but I'm really looking forward to the challenge," said Paul.

Once the TR7 returns from Barbados, the Rob Smith rallying team will re-prep the car for Graham Elsmore to take the wheel for Rally Isle of Man in September.
