A CHEPSTOW darts player has secured his place on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) Tour in a qualifying event in Wigan.
31-year-old Welsh ace Jonathan Worsley won his Tour Card for the first time as he fought through Day Two of the 2016 PDC Qualifying School.
A former butchery manager, Worsley has competed as a PDPA Associate Member for the past three years and won a spot in the 2014 UK Open. This year, he overcame David Wilson, Jack Hill, James Welding, Tony Newell, Robert Marijanovic, Brian Woods and Matthew Dennant to claim his tour card.
"It’s massive for me," he said. "I’ve been trying to win a Tour Card for a couple of years now, and this will prove a few people wrong that I’ve done it now.
"From being on the tour I’ve listened to advice from experienced players like Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis and the Welsh lads Barrie Bates and Gerwyn Price, and you try to improve from that.
"I’ve got a good sponsor who’s given me the opportunity and I want to make the most of it now. I qualified for the UK Open two years ago and getting back to Minehead is a big aim for me - all my friends are already going to watch so it would be great if I can get there."
Worsley’s win means that he joins the elite 128 Tour Card Holders in 2016. The Tour Card entitles him to compete in all of the Players Championship events throughout the year.
