WOUNDED war veterans who have taken on a 1,000 mile walk across the UK for charity will be completing the Monmouth and Chepstow stages of their incredible journey next week.

The six veterans, four British and two American, are representing Walking with the Wounded which fundraises for the re-education and training of the nation’s injured servicemen and women.

Their ambitious Walk of Britain 2015 expedition is due to pass through Monmouth on Friday 2nd October and Chepstow on 3rd October.

After setting off from Hereford, the team will arrive at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls at approximately 4.30pm.

Forces charities, cadet forces and the local community are invited to come along to the school to celebrate the walkers’ arrival. There will be live music and a presentation from the Walking with the Wounded team in the main hall. Please note that no parking will be available to supporters at HMSG on the afternoon of Friday 2nd October.

Following an overnight stay in Monmouth, people are welcome to cheer the team on when they leave Castle Hill at 8.15am on Saturday morning before they make their way to Chepstow where they will be greeted with a reception in Beaufort Square, next to the War Memorial from 3.30pm - 4.30pm. Chepstow singing club will be on hand to entertain, singing a number of well known Welsh songs.

Regimental Sergeant Major Mitchell Owen and WO2 Upton of 1 RIFLES will be present to support the walkers along with David Davies MP and Nick Ramsay AM. Chepstow Town Mayor, Councillor David Rooke, local businesses and community representatives will also be there to welcome the walkers.

The Walk of Britain began in Scotland on the 22nd August and is set to finish at Buckingham Palace on Sunday 1st November.
