DEBUT crime writer Ian Richardson will be discussing his murder mystery ‘City Crime’ and giving tips on creative writing at a free event at Usk Community Hub on Monday (1st October, 12.45pm).

Ian, who was born in Washington DC, relocated to Monmouthshire from London in 1990, having worked as a civil servant in the UK Government’s Treasury Department and Cabinet Office under Prime Ministers James Callaghan and Margaret Thatcher.

Now retired, he and his wife Valerie are enjoying country life at their home in Kemeys Commander near Usk. The couple have three grown-up children.

Ian says that having his first book published has been ‘very exciting’.

Having always enjoyed reading crime novels he now hopes to write one a year of his own.

‘City Crime’ is a compelling page-turner set in the City of London. It features two dead bodies and several suspects with motives - a neglected wife, belittled business partner, a scorned mistress and a humiliated daughter who keep two detectives very busy!

Ian says his talk will focus on different types of crime novels and general tips on writing styles.

Councillor Bob Greenland, Monmouthshire’s cabinet member with responsibility for community hubs said: “It’s always fascinating to hear how writers approach their work and our ‘meet the author’ events provide an absorbing insight.

“This talk is just one of many that our community hubs hold throughout the year and they’re well worth attending.”

Usk’s community hub is at 35 Maryport Street, NP15 1AE.  Car parking is available nearby.
