A REDBROOK director of photography has won his second BAFTA Cymru for his work on the the Welsh Film ‘Yr Ymadawiad’ (‘The Passing’).

Richard Stoddard was awarded the BAFTA Cymru for Photography and Lighting at the awards ceremony at St David’s Hall in Cardiff on Sunday, 8th October.

Mr Stoddard has lived with his wife and two children in Redbrook since moving down from London seven years ago and has worked a great deal in Wales.

He won a BAFTA Cymru award for Photography and Lighting three years ago for ‘Hinterland’ and earlier this year he was the director of photography on the Dr Who Christmas Special due to be broadcast Christmas 2017.

Yr Ymadawiad is an S4C-produced thriller, directed by Gareth Bryn set in the unforgiving Welsh countryside where two twenty-somethings find themselves stranded.

They are taken in by a landowner, who holds close the secrets of his past almost as much as his guests.

It is well-paced and tense until the very end and is carefully crafted, set to delight lovers of horror and drama alike.

Mr Stoddard, who is about to start work on a film starring Bill Nighy, said: “Working alongside Gareth Bryn (director) and Ed Talfan (writer/producer) on ‘The Passing’ was a joy, despite the harsh shooting conditions.

“It was all shot on location in the Welsh valleys with a mixture of real snow, fake snow and a rain machine.

“Collaborating with passionate and creative people is the best part of this industry.

“To then be commended by BAFTA for a job that you love, is one of the greatest honours of all.”
