In my role as your local Assembly Member, I never cease to be impressed by the tireless efforts of so many groups and individuals across the constituency who are striving to support others and make our corner of Wales a better place.
This year I’ve enjoyed working with local charities such as Monmouthshire-based Hands Around the World and Love Zimbabwe, whilst hosting a number of pub quizzes to fundraise for charities including Ovarian Cancer Action and Chepstow Mencap. I’m particularly delighted that the refurbishment of Chepstow Mencap’s new home, the old Board school is now well underway and look forward to further fundraising in 2020.
Looking to the future and I will continue to do my bit to support Monmouthshire and to champion the multitude of causes which constituents bring to my attention on a daily basis. Defending local NHS services and improving our transport infrastructure remain top priorities – including developing the South Wales Metro and a Chepstow Bypass. Meanwhile my role itself is set to evolve as next year sees the official renaming of the Assembly as Senedd or Welsh Parliament.
For now let’s all take the opportunity to pause in our hectic day-to-day lives and focus on the true message of Christmas - the birth of a small baby in a stable two thousand years ago who would go on to change the world.
May I take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
Nick Ramsay (Assembly Member for Monmouth)
