MADAM, As outgoing president of Monmouth Rotary I would like to record my thanks to everyone in Monmouth for the support they have given our club over the past year. Events we have organised have raised almost £70,000 which has been distributed to various good causes locally, nationally and internationally. The generosity characteristic of the town was very much on display in the joint collection with Monmouth Lions Club when £2,500 was collected to help the people of Nepal following the earthquake earlier this year. The raft race held last September resulted in nearly £40,000 being donated to St David's Hospice. The 50th anniversary raft race is being held on September 6th, we plan, with your help, to be bigger and better than ever. It's not too late to enter your raft, see http://www.monmouthraftrace.com">www.monmouthraftrace.com. The Walk the Wye event in May was a great success raising around £11,000 towards the ongoing Breast Cancer research at Velindre in Cardiff. The annual walk will be held again in May 2016. Monmouth Rotary, led by incoming president Rees Rogers, will be contributing to many other events in the town. Handover to the new president took place at the end of June at Glewstone Court Hotel and Restaurant. In accepting the post Rees said: "It is an honour and a privilege to be asked to steward such a vibrant and successful rotary club. My aim, with the support of the members is to continue to provide help where it was most needed". If you would like to join us in making a difference in the town, please contact the club through our web site http://www.monmouthrotary.co.uk">www.monmouthrotary.co.uk, new members are always welcome. Bob Handley (President 2014/15 Monmouth Rotary)
