STUDENTS in Monmouth have taken steps to support a locally-based charity working with disadvantaged children overseas.

Pupils at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have donated much-needed shoes for children in Africa.

Hands Around The World in Church Street has been collecting shoes for secondary school-aged children in Zambia.

“If children in Zambia do not have shoes, they are unable to start school,” said Ngum Mofor, a Year 11 pupil and Charity Monitor at Monmouth School for Girls. “It is our duty to make sure that girls in Africa have every opportunity to go to school.”

Mrs Jane Powell, Operations Manager at Hands Around The World, is a former pupil at Monmouth School for Girls.

Hands Around The World welcomes donations of shoes that are no longer needed, clothing, and volunteer support.

The charity encourages enthusiastic and well-prepared volunteers to offer practical help, skill-sharing, support and friendship.

Ngum Mofor added: “We should always offer help when we can and we hope that our shoes will allow more young people to access education in Zambia.”
