GRAMMY Award winning singer-songwriter Amy Wadge performed a specially composed song on top of the Severn Bridge to celebrate its 50th anniversary and BBC Music Day on Friday (3rd June).

In an event organised by BBC Wales and BBC Bristol, Amy Wadge was joined by Bristol’s Renewal Gospel and Gospel Generation choirs, and Only Men Aloud for a dawn performance. Amy was perched 80 metres up at the very top of the Severn Bridge, whilst the choirs performed below her on the Aust viewing platform.

The performance was aired live on BBC Radio Gloucester, BBC Radio Bristol, and BBC Radio Wales, with Mal Pope presenting his early breakfast show live from the Severn Bridge.

Born near Bristol and now living in Pontypridd, Amy Wadge wrote the song about the famous Severn Bridge as part of the ‘Take it to the Bridge’ series of BBC Music Day events, with musical collaborations being performed across more than 40 bridges around the UK.

Speaking before the event, Steve Austins, Radio Wales’ Editor said: “BBC Music Day is all about collaboration and working together and the bridge symbolises that spirit.

“As someone who has her heart in both Wales and England this is a project close to Amy’s heart and Only Men Aloud, Renewal and Gospel Generation are looking forward to bringing her words to life.”
