MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has congratulated Raglan and Usk on their success in registering for the Alzheimer's Society dementia friendly community recognition process.

The process recognises communities for their work towards becoming dementia friendly and is built around seven foundation criteria which have been developed, based on what is known to be important to people affected by dementia.

Mr Ramsay, who is planning to become a "dementia friend", said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Raglan and Usk, making them the first communities in Wales to receive recognition after two pilots in Brecon and Swansea.

"I am looking forward to attending a meeting with those involved in the process and learning more about the efforts that have gone into being awarded this recognition, which will assuredly improve experiences both for those suffering from dementia and their carers."

Organisations and businesses in Raglan and Usk can now request to use and display the 'Working to become Dementia Friendly' symbol by stating what their actions will be towards becoming dementia friendly. They can do this by contacting Phil Diamond at [email protected]">[email protected]
