THE Silks restaurant at Chepstow Racecourse was packed to capacity for a race night raising money for farming charity R.A.B.I and the Brecon Mountain Rescue team.
The evening generated £2,617.32 for the two charities, but match funding from Barclays, arranged by Alyson Mayo, meant R.A.B.I received £1,908.66 towards supporting farming families in Monmouthshire.
R.A.B.I joined forces with Gwent YFC to stage the race night on 30th September. The young farmers chose to raise money for the Brecon Mountain Rescue team in memory of James Corfield, who sadly died earlier this year. ?
The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I) is a welfare charity which supports farmers and farmworkers of all ages, giving out grants of around £2 million each year in Wales and England.
Last year, R.A.B.I helped around 200 Welsh families and paid out grants of £283,000. Much of the charity’s funding comes from public donations, events arranged by county committees and support from businesses and community groups.
Gwent YFC organiser, Sally Richardson, said: “We are extremely pleased that the evening was such a success and we’re grateful to everyone who supported us. We raised a considerable sum of money for two very worthy causes.”
Gwilym Richards, chair of R.A.B.I’s Monmouthshire committee, added: “I’d like to thank Gwent YFC for sharing this event with us and also the businesses and individuals who provided some fabulous raffle prizes.”
