THE Dell Primary school could receive a £16,000 boost for IT projects at the school.

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) would like to use funding from Section 106 monies to enhance its IT technology.

If successful, the school will use the money to improve portable device technology for Key Stage 2 and Foundation Phase pupils.

The school would like to purchase a total of 48 iPad Minis for Foundation Phase children, costing £7,344 complete with cases, software and charging units totalling £2,637.

Key Stage 2 pupils will receive 31 iPad Minis costing £4,743 along with cases and iPad software totalling £1,920

Council officers worked with head teacher of the Dell Primary School, Steve King, and staff to decide where the money should be used.

The Section 106 monies were received from the Glan Hafren NHS Trust in respect of the Mount Pleasant/St Lawrence Hospital site development by Bryant Homes.

Under the terms of the agreement the money should be spent on a primary school site 1,500m from the development. However, there has never been a primary school within this distance so council officers felt it would be appropriate to use the money at The Dell Primary School which is nearest to the development.

Councillors will meet on Wednesday 15th April to consider the plans.
