CALDICOT will receive a boost of more than £100,000 after a decision made by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) on Wednesday 4th May.

A budget of £91,788 has been set by the council to carry out works to improve playgrounds at Caldicot Castle and Cas Troggy.

Funding will come from Section 106 monies taken from the hosing development at Church Road, Caldicot.

Cabinet member Phil Murphy said: “Upgrading works need to be carried out at Caldicot Castle and Cas Troggy playgrounds. There’s a huge amount of young people in our community who’ll really benefit and have access to the best play equipment. This is a really positive report and I’m sure we’ll all support this.”

Caldicot Town Team has scooped £8,097.50 to enable the successful specialist markets to become monthly fixtures in the town.

Councillor Phil Hobson said: “This is building on the initiative of the specialist markets run last year. Due to the savings the town team made, they were able to hold a family fun day and host a Christmas market.

“The town team has now built up a database and done their research.”

They were also gifted £4,446 to create a pop up shop in the town centre for would-be businesses looking to set up in the town. Funding for both projects managed by the town team is being taken out of Section 106 monies from the ASDA development.
