DECISIONS on the allocation of grants for Caerwent projects are going to be made by Cabinet this week.

Section 106 funding has been received from Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) following a new housing development in Merton Green, Caerwent, with a total £326,988 to be allocated.

The Lower Wye Area Committee met last month to discuss funding for three groups in the area.

Applications for funding were received from Crick Wildlife and Environmental Group to develop a wildflower meadow on a piece of land in Crick leased from MCC by the community council.

The Old Gym Community Centre submitted a request to carry out building improvements to benefit existing and future users of the centre. Users of the centre include an active youth group that meets at the centre along with a number of recreational groups.

Caerwent Playing Fields Association have also requested funding to carry out extensions and improvements including improved sports changing rooms at the village hall, located at Caerwent playing field.

Mike Moran, community infrastructure coordinator at MCC, said: “The Lower Wye Area Committee and the Caerwent Community Council were happy with the officer recommendations about the allocation of the Caerwent Off Site Recreation Fund.”
