Motorists across Monmouthshire are being urged to plan ahead as a series of temporary road closures are introduced over the coming weeks to allow essential highway maintenance and utility works to be carried out safely.

Monmouthshire County Council has announced four separate temporary traffic regulation orders affecting roads in Llanvair Discoed, Crick and Portskewett during late July and early August.

The first closure will affect Crick Road, Crick, where the council intends to close a 500-metre section of the road from around 450 metres north-east of its junction with the B4245. The one-day closure is scheduled for Friday, July 31, between 10am and 5pm, to enable utility crews to carry out pole installation works. A signed diversion will operate via Crick Road, the A48 and the B4245, while access for residents will be maintained whenever possible.

Shortly afterwards, a section of the road between Dovecote Barn and the A48 at Llanvair Discoed will close for highway repair works. The closure is expected to be in place on August 3 and 4, with work taking place between 8am and 3.30pm each day. The affected stretch extends for approximately 100 metres, around 275 metres from the junction with the R113 towards Castroggi Brook. Traffic will be diverted via the R113 and the A48.

Meanwhile, two road closures in Portskewett have already been authorised.

A section of Crick Road near its junction with Caldicot Road will be closed on July 25 and 26 to allow cabling works to be completed safely. Traffic was diverted via Caldicot Road and the B4245 during the works.

A longer closure is also in force on C69.8 Leechpool Holdings, between its junctions with the B4245 and R140 Main Road. The restriction will come into effect on July 27 and is expected to remain until August 13, with working hours between 9.30am and 3.30pm. The works involve BT cabling and associated civil engineering, with a signed diversion in place via the B4245, Parkwall, the A48 and Ifton Hill.

The council says all four temporary orders are necessary to ensure work can be completed safely while protecting both the workforce and road users. Reasonable access will continue to be provided for properties fronting the affected roads wherever practicable, although motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and follow signed diversion routes during the closures.
