Pie maker, Peter’s Pies, has today announced the 15 finalists in its Welsh Rugby Heroes 2016 competition which includes club secretary at Monmouth RFC, Byron Hapgood.

The voting is now open to the public to determine the winner.

The contest asked clubs and individuals to nominate their local rugby heroes who they think go the extra mile to support Wales’ best loved game at a grassroots level, and Peter’s was inundated with nominations from clubs across Wales.

Mr Hapgood has been with Monmouth RFC for 45 years as player, captain, coach, chairman and now secretary. He was responsible for buying and extending the club house and built the pavilion.

He was selected from more than 100 entries from 85 rugby clubs by a panel of judges, and will all win a Welsh Rugby Union jersey. It is now down to the public to choose their favourite finalist who will be crowned Peter’s Welsh Rugby Hero 2016 and win £5,000 of Under Armour kit and equipment for their club.

Prizes will also be given for 2nd and 3rd places, of £3,000 and £2,000 of Under Armour kit respectively, the remaining 12 finalists will each receive £100 of Under Armour kit vouchers.

We have until 16th March to vote for the most deserving winner via www.welshrugbyheroes.com.
