Shoppers in Chepstow have been expressing their concern over pigeon excrement on the paving of Thomas Street Arcade.
Despite netting being erected in recent years, the birds have been back nesting in the roof outside the Co-operative store because of a broken window in the arcade allowing them access.
A spokesman from Monmouthshire County Council said: "We have received a number of calls recently from concerned shoppers about pigeons trapped above netting in Chepstow's Thomas Street Arcade.
"Environmental health officers have been working with the arcade owners to resolve the problem by removing the trapped birds and replacing 15 sections of glass. This will ensure that pigeons can no longer access the area."
A spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said: "We are aware of the issue caused by pigeons at our Chepstow store and have been working hard to resolve this.
"We have already repaired the damaged glass panels, which was a key cause of the problem, and this weekend we will repair the netting below and have cleaners due to clear up the mess inside the precinct.
"We would like to reassure customers that we are committed to maintaining a pleasant shopping environment in and around our store."
