MADAM,

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) in their wisdom agreed to the covering of the hedge on the Wonastow Road to protect the interests of the new development due to start this year. The unsightly plastic netting has been there since last spring to prevent birds from nesting. The netting is now entangled and almost engulfed by the hedge itself, so when removed will render it useless.

Well done MCC, another ton of plastic we can add to landfill. We are told to turn the television standby light off to save the environment yet what is the environmental impact in manufacturing and destroying all that plastic?

Maybe a bit more communication between the relevant people could establish when birds actually nest and when a development can start, that way we could help the environment and keep the countryside free from unsightly plastic at the same time.

I only hope these people are voluntary and not actually paid by us to make these decisions.
