LABOUR Parliamentary Candidate, Ruth Jones will join hundreds of others in celebrating International Women's Day in Monmouthshire.

She will attend the launch of the Monmouth Women's Festival on 6th March and a Global Coffee morning in the Shire Hall on the day itself, 8th March. After that, she will be visiting local groups and talking to women about issues that are important to them, including unequal pay, child care and domestic abuse.

Ruth said: "International Women's Day is the day to celebrate the role of women in their families, at work and around the world. And it's a time to focus on our determination – as Labour – to tackle the discrimination and oppression of women across the world, and step up our progress towards fairness and equality. International Women's Day is an opportunity to highlight our promise of 25 hours free childcare, our determination to tackle domestic violence and our plans for tougher action against unequal pay".

Monmouth Women's Festival aims to celebrate the achievements of women and raise awareness of issues relating to women locally and internationally.
