PART of the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail in Monmouth is being closed for four weeks from August 18.
The section of footpath 136 will be shut between Staunton Road from Mayhill junction up to the Kymin junction due to geotechnical investigation works to allow improvements to be made.
Offa’s Dyke Path is a 177-mile (285km) walking trail named after the rampart King Offa ordered to be constructed in the 8th century, probably to divide his Kingdom of Mercia from rival kingdoms in what is now Wales.
The trail was opened in the summer of 1971 and links Sedbury Cliffs near Chepstow on the banks of the Severn estuary with the coastal town of Prestatyn on the shores of the Irish Sea.
