A FORECAST of a clear sky across Wales tonight should provide excellent viewing conditions for an impressive meteor shower.

Tonight will be close to the best night to view the Orionid Meteor Shower which is visible from 2nd October to 7th November.

The Orionids are created from the remains of Halley’s Comet and at it’s peak, stargazers could see up to 20 shooting stars per hour.

The display will be visible all across the UK but a clear, dark sky away from any sources of light pollution should provide the best view.

The location of the shower should not be difficult to spot as it will occur near one of the more famous constellations, Orion.

The Met Office said: “The Orionid meteor shower is named as such because it appears to radiate from the constellation Orion, which is one of the most visible and recognisable in the sky throughout the world.

“Orionid meteors are known to be very fast travelling at around 41 miles per second, and typically on the faint side, although with clear, dark skies you still have a good chance of spotting one with its persistent, long trail.”
