Last year, Llangattock Ploughing Society with help from Antique Power Group Vintage Club organised a charity ploughing match in aid of Cancer Research UK to honour the memory of former Welsh Champion Ploughman and president of the society, the late Ron Williams of Wolvesnewton near Chepstow.
With over 60 ploughmen taking part at the site at Raglan kindly provided by Keith and Dilys Williams and family, the magnificent total of £1.650 was raised through entry fees, a raffle run by Louise Williams with her daughters Helen and Catherine and numerous very generous donations.
In recognition of the sum raised, Lynne Eagle of Cancer Research UK presented a certificate to Louise Williams and family at a recent meeting of the society.
Lynne said: "We are so grateful for this donation, without people like you we would not be able to continue the fight against this disease as we receive no funding from government. At the moment, two out of every four people are cured from cancer and our strategy is that by 2035 three out of every four people will be cured".
