As far as I am aware, the town council has a dress code, the standards of which have been allowed to drop dramatically.

The town clerk has a responsibility to advise mayors and councillors about the appropriate dress for an official occasion, after all, they are representing the town.

I was told that the mayor, who laid a wreath on Armistice day was not wearing a suit and the chain was clinging to his ‘sweater’.

He was also pictured in the Beacon 1.11.23 opening the new wine store with no chain at all.

Well I think it was the mayor, it could have been anybody.

Come on councillors, read your constitution and take pride in what you do, after all, Monmouth is the county town
