BLUE badge holders in Monmouthshire may have to start paying for parking in charging car parks.

Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) has kick-started consultation for new parking proposals that will affect the entire county.

Proposals include altering car parking charges, introducing charges for blue badge holders and allocating various car parks with short or long stay status.

The council has proposed to extend the charging policy to include blue badge holders with a concession of an additional hour to the amount of time purchased. It also seeks to position pay machines in close proximity to improved and suitably located disabled spaces.

The order also proposes to introduce car parking charges at Station Road and The Station car parks at Chepstow.

Charges at Cinderhill Street car park and rowing club car park in Monmouth could also be introduced after the Rockfield Road car park is completed.

Other proposals include creating long stay parking at a charge of £2 per day at Rogiet Playing fields.

If approved, the current overstay charge will only be applicable in long stay car parks.

MCC conducted a review of public car parking and after consultation it was presented to senior councillors in September 2014.

It was decided that a new car park order should be drafted to reflect the findings of the review.

Residents can submit their concerns or suggestions to Roger Hoggins, head of operations at MCC, by no later than Friday 22nd April.
