ARE you struggling to think of a unique Father’s Day gift this year?

The British Hen Welfare Trust may have the solution.

A rehoming day will be held in Trellech this Sunday, 19th June with hundreds of hens looking for a new start.

The hens, rescued from battery conditions, make wonderful and surprisingly easy pets.

Jane Howorth, charity founder, said: “Hens really do bring so much joy to everyday life, from the way they sun and dust bathe to their charming personalities, they’ll become part of the family in no time.

“We’re sure every dad would also love eating cake made from free range eggs, so please get in touch if you think you can give some gorgeous hens a second chance in life.”

The British Hen Welfare Trust is well-known for its pioneering work in re-homing commercial laying hens and through its nationwide team of more than 450 volunteers has found homes for more than 500,000 hens since hatching in 2005. As well as finding homes for hens, the charity also educates the public on how they can make a difference to hen welfare through their shopping basket and eating habits.

Anyone interested in rehoming hens is urged to call the charity’s re-homing team on 01884 860084, or email [email protected].

Hens need to be reserved in advance of the re-homing day itself and although the feel-good factor of saving these hens from slaughter comes free of charge, the charity does asks for a small donation of £4 or £5 per hen to cover its costs.

If you are unable to re-home, but would still like to support the charity, contact [email protected] or visit www.bhwt.org.uk to find out more ways to get involved.
