A FORMER Monmouthshire social worker is to appear before a Care Council Conduct Committee charged with failing to safeguard service users.

Alan Ralph Kalawsky, formerly employed by Monmouthshire County Council, has been accused of failing to uphold professional standards by not addressing the abusive behaviour of staff; failing to provide adequate support to staff members; and misusing company equipment.

The hearing will take place on Monday 27th April at the Care Council for Wales offices in Cardiff.  The hearing is expected to last four days.

The care council is the social care workforce regulator in Wales. By registering with the care council, practitioners and social work students are accountable for their conduct and practice. Action may be taken where the conduct committee agrees the allegations amount to misconduct.

Sanctions are a part of the care council's drive to improve the social care services used by around 150,000 people at any one time in Wales, and raise public confidence in those services.
