A FLOOD warning issued in Monmouthshire yesterday has continued into today after continued heavy rainfall.
The flood alert, issued by Natural Resources Wales, says the level of the River Wye at Monmouth was 2.5 metres and falling. A peak level of four metres occurred at 9pm yesterday (22nd November). The level of the River Monnow at Skenfrith was 3.7 metres and rising slowly, and a peak level of 3.8 metres occurred at 11pm last night.
The alert is the least serious category, warning that flooding is possible in certain areas rather than posing a serious threat , but large amounts of standing water on the county’s roads have meant conditions are difficult.
The AA has reminded motorists to be careful when driving in hazardous conditions, particularly when negotiating heavy rain or floods and standing water. The stay safe they say drivers should try to avoid standing water when possible, drive slowly and steadily through water where possible and to test you vehicle’s brakes as soon as possible afterwards.
