It isn’t every day the rural village of Llanover is graced with a royal presence, however, on Thursday last week, Monmouth’s prom king and queen paid an offical visit. HRH The Prince of Wales was also in attendance.

Prince Charles, during his recent visit to Monmouthshire met with Monmouth Comprehensive School pupils Amelie Barker and Dylan Hughes at Llanover near Abergavenny on 4th July.The two MCS students met Prince Charles, on his tour of Wales, as part of the charity group 21plus.Founded by Victoria Hughes and Katharina Barker, mother’s of Amelie and Dylan, 21plus is a support group for families with children who have Down’s Syndrome in Monmouthshire, the Forest of Dean and surrounding areas.It is called 21 Plus as children with Down’s Syndrome have one extra chromosome 21. 21 Plus enables families to get together to share information as well as their experiences and form lasting friendships.21 Plus, who were nominated for a St David Award earlier this year, were one of three finalists in the citizenship category. They’re committed to facilitating specialised training for professionals about Down’s Syndrome, inclusion of children with Down’s Syndrome into schools and providing appropriate support for the children.Amelie and Dylan were crowned prom king and queen last month at the year 11 graduation evening at the Chase Hotel in Ross.Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles have begun their 15th summer tour of Wales, which includes Llanover.The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of Charles’s investiture as Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle.Prince Charles is currently the longest serving Prince of Wales.The couple visited businesses, charities and groups across south and mid Wales during the earlier parts of their tour before moving on to north Wales towards the end of the week.
