THE next stage of the sale of Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) old County Hall site at Croesyceilog was completed at February's cabinet meeting.

The cabinet has agreed to the terms and conditions of the sale, which involves Torfaen County Borough Council (TCBC) as the site is situated within its boundary.

There was one additional condition made by MCC to the terms which included a "best interest" clause, stating that "the chief officers, in consultation with the cabinet member, satisfy themselves that the section 106 agreed is fair to both landowners."

It was described by cabinet as "a bit of a catch all, but an important one".

The sale of the site is set to raise in the region of £1.7m for MCC though the figure could go up depending on the allocation of affordable housing decided by TCBC.

If 20 per cent of the development of the old County Hall site is set aside for affordable housing, rather than 30 per cent, that figure could go up to around £2.2m. All projections depend on what deal can be done for the site.

The same proposals went before TCBC's cabinet meeting on Tuesday 10th February where they were approved.
