Double parking, stopping in bus stops and taxi ranks, parking on limited waiting bays or loading bays and misuse of disabled bays will all be a thing of the past from the end of April.

From 8th April, Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) has taken over on-street parking enforcement and are allowing a four week period of grace until the parking charge notices start appearing on the cars of the absent-minded, the ill-advised or the plain ignorant drivers who ignore and misuse the double yellow rules, parking orders and special bays reserved for unloading or the disabled.

Until last year, the police were tasked with dealing with traffic regulation orders on the streets and highways, however now that the thin blue line has all but disappeared from dealing with erroneous parking, MCC officers will not only be patrolling car parks, but high streets across the county as well.

A total period of four weeks is being allowed until the council will begin enforcing: double and single yellow lines, disabled bays, limited waiting bays, taxi ranks, coach bays, loading bays, zig-zag markings at schools (if restrictions apply) and pedestrian crossings, double parking or parking too far away from the kerb edge and parking in bus stops.
