THE last of the vulnerable residents will be relocated from Chepstow’s Sedbury Park Care Home this week, ahead of the care home’s closure later this month.

In September Four Seasons Health Care (FSHC) announced it was closing the care home as it was running at a loss. Renovation work was also needed at the Grade II listed building.

The care home provided residential and specialist care, with more than two thirds of residents suffering from dementia.

The majority of residents were relocated to homes within Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire leaving a final three residents.

It is thought that the last three residents will be relocated by the end of the week.

The management team at Sedbury Park were working closely with the county councils in Monmouthshire and Gloucestershire, relaying weekly updates on the process.

Of the 76 staff employed in September, only four have been transferred to new positions within FSHC, because of the travel distance to other FSHC care homes.

Relatives and loved ones of residents were quick to praise the staff.

The wife of a relocated resident said: “The saddest thing about the closure of the home has meant that a lot of residents are no longer surrounded by the friends they made, and they miss their friends and staff.

“The staff were tremendous in how they cared and loved the residents in Sedbury, they always took the time to spend time with them.

“This was not just the carers but all departments; office, nurses, laundry, maintenance and housewifery, there was always a happy atmosphere a very friendly place to be. Everyone was made welcome in the home.”

Monmouthshire County Council were responsible for 26 residents in the care home, and all were transferred to homes within Monmouthshire.

Head of Adult Services, Julie Boothroyd said: “Staff at Sedbury Park have been exceptional and have managed what could have been a very difficult situation excellently.

“In the next few weeks we will review the relocation of the 26 residents to make sure that they have settled in well.”
