A PROPOSED development on Newport Road in Caldicot has been recommended for approval, after amendments have been made to the original plans reducing the number of houses to be built from three to two.

The proposal for three detached homes went before Monmouthshire County Council's (MCC) planning committee in November 2014 and, despite being recommended for approval at the time, it was deferred to negotiate changes to the scheme.

There were fears that the access road at the rear, Ferney Cross, would be too congested to deal with the increased traffic and car parking.

With the removal of a house from the plans, there is now space allocated for up to four cars for each property, along with space set aside for visitor parking.

The previously planned open access to the properties, which was designed to allow for turning space at the end of Ferney Cross, was originally removed from the amended plans but has been put back on after a request to keep the space.

The latest proposals for the two properties, which will be built at the rear of numbers 152 and 154 Newport Road, will go before MCC's planning committee at its meeting on Tuesday 3rd March.
