The Bridges Centre in Monmouth is branching out and is very excited about opening a new community shop in Chepstow.

The Mayor of Chepstow, Councillor Dale Rooke, officially opened the new premises in Library Place, Manor Way at 10 am on Saturday 4th November.

Although Bridges Centre is based in Drybridge House in Monmouth, Bridges is increasingly involved in projects across the county.

In particular, it has three projects which are all active in the Chepstow area. The befriending project is working with isolated and lonely older people linking them with volunteers who visit them on a regular basis.

Bridges also has a project called “Building Bridges” working with young people with disabilities which, amongst other things, is running a weekly youth group at the Bulwark centre. Finally, Bridges has a “volunteering for wellbeing” project which aims to recruit, train and support volunteers in a range of meaningful roles and activities in the community.

One of the aims of opening the shop is to provide information and advice about these projects in Chepstow.

Bridges will also, of course, be hoping to raise money to sustain these activities through selling second hand clothes, books etc.

Mark Walton, Centre Director at Bridges Centre said “We are really looking forward to this opportunity to raise awareness of our work in Chepstow.

“Meanwhile, we urgently need donations of clothes and bric-a-brac which can be left at the shop in Library Place during normal opening hours from Tuesday 31st October.

“We also need to recruit and train a team of volunteers to help run the shop on a day to day basis. So if you think you can spare a few hours a week please contact Nadine Lewis ([email protected]) or our shop manager, Glen Saunders ([email protected]) or call 01600 715277. You will be well supported and will enjoy being part of an enthusiastic team."
