WITH bonfire night tonight, it is important to not only enjoy the celebration but to stay safe.
In a campaign leading up to tonight, Gwent police have been urging people to take care to keep themselves and others safe. Using #SparklerSafety, parents are being urged to show children how to hold sparklers, ensuring that gloves are worn at all times and that children do not wave them or run with them.
Animal owners are also being prompted to take steps to keep their pets calm during the firework season, as bonfire night can be a terrifying experience for them. Animals should be kept indoors when possible, and should be provided a safe haven to retreat to when anxious.
When buying fireworks, ensure that they conform to British Standards. This means that they should have BS 7114 on the box. It’s important to ensure that fireworks are purchased from a reputable dealer and not from the back of a van or an unlicensed market stall.
Enjoy the fireworks!
