Caldicot Castle was invaded over the May Bank Holiday weekend by soldiers from all eras. The third Fortress Wales event included living history groups from the medieval era, American Civil War to the Second World War and the Vietnam conflict. The largest event of its kind, over 600 actors from various historical re-enactment groups from all over the UK and Europe decended on Caldicot castle to do battle and fill the air with smoke and gunfire. It is estimated that the event running from Sunday 4th May to Monday 5th May brought in around five and a half thousand people to the area, giving tourism a big boost. The designated charity this year was the Royal British Legion, and a minutes silence was held at the final parade to remember the anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
