MONMOUTHSHIRE County Council continues to make progress towards the restoration of Caerwent House as it works with a building preservation trust.
Caerwent House, a Grade II listed landmark building has sat in a state of disrepair for a number of years and dates back to the 16th or early 17th Century.
The council served a compulsory purchase order for the property in 2013 with with the aim of working with a building preservation organisation to complete repairs.
However a number of hurdles including trying to locate current owners, establishing certainty that there is a secondary buyer after the withdrawal of one trust have led to delays.
Documents tabled in a council meeting on 16th June indicate there has been further progress compulsory purchase, and the house may be closer to repair.
A Monmouthshire County Council spokesperson said: “Monmouthshire County Council remains committed to the restoration of Caerwent House and understands the significance of the building and its position within the village, which is an important tourist destination.
“At present, officers are working with an experienced building preservation trust to secure a full and sympathetic scheme of restoration and enhancement. This will ensure the survival of this important, but severely ‘at risk’, Grade II listed landmark building in the centre of Caerwent.”
