Well-known Monmouth figure Ken Brown is showing a retrospective exhibition of his paintings on the cafe walls of the award winning Brockweir & Hewelsfield Village Shop throughout February.
The selection of paintings, pastels and drawings have been taken from his own studio walls giving an opportunity to see the breadth of style and material which Ken has experiment with over the past 30 years.
Achieving considerable skill, especially considering he only began as a hobby thirty years ago after retiring!
Of his work he says; “Finishing my schooling with a distinction in art, instead of art college I was taken into the RAF Bomber Command for the rest of the War.
“On release I married and had family commitments so took work in the textile industry where I remained until my retirement, only then was I able to enjoy my artistic inclinations. I joined numerous art societies and groups, in due course exhibiting widely as an amateur.
“Because of my late entry into the art world I have experimented in a wide range of media; oils, pastels, watercolour, line & wash, pencil and pen and ink and have been just as diverse in my subject matter.
“This retrospective exhibition shows a range of what you may call traditional art, not surprising as I am in my mid nineties!”
Ken lives in Monmouth and for many years was president of the Wye Valley Art Society.
Ken wishes that the proceeds from any sales will be donated to St David’s Hospice, Newport.
The exhibition continues until 26th February. The shop and cafe are open all day, seven days a week (Sundays 10am to 4pm).
