SAFETY improvement measures for the A466 Wye Valley link road at Chepstow are progressing ‘as quickly as possible’ according to the Welsh Government.
But local residents demanding action on a stretch of road that claimed the lives of three people between 2013 and 2016 are ‘extremely frustrated’ that it is all taking so long.
Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay, who has been pressing the Welsh Government to carry out the much-needed improvements on their behalf, says that he was pleased to receive some positive news from the Welsh Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Ken Skates, despite the ‘very slow progress’ and would continue to monitor the situation and press for measures to be put in place ‘to make this dangerous stretch of road safer’.
A Welsh Government spokesperson told the Beacon that, with the necessary investigations and scheme preparations ongoing, the plan was to bring in a 50mph speed limit during this financial year, along with improvements to signing and line markings.
Other measures, including the provision of speed cameras, redirection of Public Rights of Way crossings and further improvements to the Newhouse interchange exit, were programmed for the next financial year.
