Shakespeare’s compelling tragedy of boundary-defying love, Othello, comes to the big screen of The Blake Theatre on Thursday (February 23).
Starring Giles Terera (Hamilton) as Othello, Rosy McEwan (The Alienist) as Desdemona, and Tanya Franks (Broadchurch) as Emilia, the play tells the story of love thwarted by oppressive social barriers and meddling outside forces.
Desdemona is a bright, headstrong daughter of a senator; elevated by her status but stifled by its expectations.
Othello is a refugee of slavery; having risen to the top of a white world, he finds love across racial lines has a cost.
Wed in secret, Desdemona and Othello crave a new life together.
But as unseen forces conspire against them, they find their future is not theirs to decide.
Othello, described by Time Out magazine as “a visceral piece of theatre” begins at 7pm on Thursday 23rd February.
