AN AMBITIOUS project to photograph 100 people during the pandemic in South Wales – aged from 1 to 100 – is being launched by Abergavenny photographer Amy Hewitt and Usk journalist Steve Hoselitz.

The project, 2020 Vision, will document in pictures and words the way local people are coping during the pandemic.

The organisers are asking people of all ages within the region to volunteer to be photographed and to give a short interview.

Their contributions will be compiled into an exhibition of 100 images to be displayed publicly in South Wales and then more widely.

Amy Hewitt, 28, graduated in photography, since when she has been working on other photographic projects. “I am really excited at the thought of meeting so many different people and documenting their personal experiences during these unprecedented times,” she said.

Journalist Steve Hoselitz, 73, formerly the editor of a local daily newspaper (the South Wales Argus) added: “The idea for the project really took off when we met recently. Amy has the perfect skills to bring it to life.

’’It will be a challenge to get someone from every birth year, but it adds a special dimension to the project, too.”

The two professionals are asking members of the public to contact them. In total they are looking for a hundred people in South Wales to volunteer to be photographed (they will select one person of each age from 1-100).

They will produce the photographic portraits (with a free copy to the volunteer) and write a short account about how the person is coping during the strange times. (Parents will need to volunteer their children and to authorise portraits of those under 18).

When they have completed the 100 images and stories they will form the basis of a public exhibition. All those interested in being photographed should contact Amy in the first instance on [email protected].

The project is being supported by Artworks Exhibitions Services Ltd, of Abergavenny.
