A MOTHER-of-one whose body was found in Usk died of “pressure to the neck”.

The body of Georgina Symonds, from Allt-yr-yn in Newport, was discovered by police at a workshop on Beech Hill Farm in Usk last Wednesday (13th January).

An inquest opened yesterday (19th January) in Newport announced a provisional cause of death of ligature pressure to the neck, a form of strangulation that occurs with a cord-like object.

Police were called to Beech Hill Farm at approximately 5.50am last Wednesday morning (13th January). On arrival, officers discovered the body of mother-of-one Georgina Symonds.

53-year-old Peter Morgan from Llanellen, Abergavenny appeared in Cardiff Crown Court via video link on Monday (18th January) charged with murder.

Geoff Ronayne, at Newport Coroner’s Office said: “One person has been arrested in connection with the death and charged with an offence of murder contrary to common law and has been remanded in custody.”

The body was later identified by her mother, and has now been released to the family.

The inquest has been adjourned for a period of three months.

Family Liaison Officers are supporting Georgina’s family.

In a tribute last week, Georgina’s mother Deborah Symonds said: “I have lost a beautiful daughter, she was the light of my life.

“The family are heartbroken and she will be greatly missed.”

Senior investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Roger Fortey said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this very difficult time.

“Our investigation will establish exactly what happened and additional patrols will be taking place in the area in the coming days to provide local residents with confidence and reassurance.”
