A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 25-year-old woman in Usk.

Police were called to an address in the Usk area at approximately 5.50am on Wednesday morning (13th January).

On arrival, officers discovered the body of mother-of-one Georgina Symonds.

53-year-old Peter Morgan from the Abergavenny area appeared in Newport Magistrates court this morning charged with murder.

The cause of death has yet to be established and this will be determined following a post mortem.

The family of the deceased are being supported by Family Liaison Officers.

Georgia’s mother Deborah Symonds, has paid the following tribute: “I have lost a beautiful daughter, she was the light of my life.

“The family are heartbroken and she will be greatly missed.”

Senior investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Roger Fortey said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this very difficult time.

“Our investigation will establish exactly what happened and additional patrols will be taking place in the area in the coming days to provide local residents with confidence and reassurance.”

Gwent Police is not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
