TWO people have been arrested following a serious road traffic collision between a car and three cyclists on Sunday afternoon.

Gwent Police officers continue to investigate the collision which took place in Llanllowell Lane, Llanllowell, near Usk.

A police spokesperson said: "At approximately 4.05pm on Sunday, 3rd February, we received reports of a collision involving a car and three cyclists. One cyclist suffered minor injuries and was treated at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny, before being discharged. Two cyclists suffered serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wales in Cardiff. One has since been discharged, the other remains in a critical but stable condition. The car involved in the collision made off from the scene.

"A 40-year-old man from the Newport area and a 45-year-old woman from the Cwmbran area have both been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing injury, driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit, and for failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision. Both remain in police custody.
