A MAN has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after a string of sexual assaults on a child.

The Undy resident, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced last Friday (11th December) at Cardiff Crown Court.

In a trial lasting a week, the jury found him guilty of several counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempted rape of a child under 13 and causing a child to watch or look at an image of sexual activity.

The defendant was cleared of rape and possessing indecent images of children.

The victim spoke via video link of the abuse which started in 2007 then ended in 2011 and how the events had stayed with him long after the abuse ended.

Despite the defence arguing the evidence was “not sufficient”, the man was found guilty by the jury on Friday 13th November.
