A 50-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and two others are in hospital with “life changing” injuries after a crash on the A40 between Monmouth and Raglan this morning.

At 5.50am this morning (Friday 6th November 2015) Gwent Police received reports regarding a two vehicle road traffic collision (RTC), southbound on the A40 in Monmouth, near the Gibraltar tunnels.

Following this incident, Police were notified of another two vehicle RTC in the same location on the northbound carriageway. During this incident, two people sustained minor injuries. This road is now open.

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “The southbound carriage way will be closed for a substantial period of time, with diversions in place from the Monmouth traffic lights to the Wye Valley.

“Traffic officers are on the scene advising HGV lorries of alternative routes as the Wye Valley route has weight restrictions.”
