USK Castle Farm played host to the second annual Dirty Dozen race on Saturday 11th July.

Described by organisers as a huge success, the event saw people descend on the site from far and wide.

A 12km race, with more than 20 obstacles inspired by the United States Navy Seal's training course, the Dirty Dozen had more than 1,000 runners take part in the gruelling assault course run.

Obstacles included a 10ft wall, water pits, mud mountains, balance beams, tarzan bars and log carries – with organisers taking great pride in creating devious challenges.

The race, which also featured a short-course Dirty Dash over 6km, is designed to test strength, balance, and co-ordination, while it also hopes to inspire teamwork.

Thomas Blanc took the overall win in a time of 1 hour 14 minutes, while there was entertainment provided for after the race by band Apple Tree Theory.

Organiser Doug Spence said: It was our best event to date.

"We had around 1,700 people onsite – both runners and spectators – and, what with the amazing weather, all had a great time.

"We've got some ideas for next year already but, as always, I like to keep the surprises a surprise."
