RACING trainer David Evans could have another star on his hands according to the Racing Post, after 14/1 shot Impulsive Spirit lived up to her name to win at the first time of asking at Chepstow Racecourse.

Jockey Rob Hornby got her up on the line by a neck to take the £10,000 5f fillies' maiden race, reeling in long-time leader Kokumi.

And he told Sky Sports: "I loved her from the moment I got on her. I think she justifies her price tag and some.

“Debuts like this are all about learning on the job and she took a lot in over five furlongs.

"She found the line really well and I was confident when I hit the rising ground that she was always going to win.”

Impulsive Spirit cost £85,000 as a breeze-up purchase in April and is bred to progress over further, with Pandy-based Evans already eyeing bigger targets.

“She did it quite professionally and everything comes easily to her,” he said.

“We had a lot of problems early on, whether she was growing or hormones, but she’s got a lot of ability.

“She’s in the Goffs Million race at the Curragh (September 26), so seven furlongs will have to be looked at. They’re good owners.”

Shirenewton's Grace Harris was also celebrating a double at Wales’ leading racecourse, which is marking its centenary this month.

First up, 7/2 shot Rating under Rossa Ryan came home 1 1/4L up on 17/2 shout Risen Again in the £7,000 Trade Centre Wales Handicap.

Then 9/1 shot Too Much Trevor under Ashley Lewis squeezed home by a neck to take the £7,500 Trade Centre UK Handicap from 11/4 favourite Von Trotter.

And she was in the winner’s enclosure again four days later at Newton Abbot, when 15/8 favourite My Girl Katie galloped to a 7L win in the £10,000 Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase under Alix Balfe.
