THE Chepstow Harriers took part in the Gwent League cross country running league at Llandaff Fields, Cardiff last Sunday (9th November).
The men ran 10k and the women 6k. The sun shone throughout the event making it a lovely day out for competitor and spectator alike.
Course conditions were slippery underfoot with competitors opting to wear spikes or studded fell shoes to avoid skidding and tumbles.
The Gwent League is a highly competitive cross country racing league, attracting the best runners from South Wales and South West England.
The five Chepstow Harriers' women who took part were Kath Matthews, in a very impressive fifth position, Jane Horler 28th, Niki Morgan 42nd, Vanessa Lawson 85th, and Sophie Gilbert 134th.
The nine Chepstow Harriers' men who took part were James Blore 84th, Matt Stott 96th, Jonathan Carter 162th, Paul Lidgett 166th, Matthew Lawson 192nd, Neil Grant 241st, Kevin McEntee 289th, Glenn Meek 323rd, and Stuart Duncan 398th.
The women are currently eighth in the first division and the men are fourth in the second division.
There are five races in the winter series and the third race is taking place on Saturday 6th December in Brecon.
Both teams aim to improve their division positions as the series progresses.
