A MONMOUTH nine-year-old attended the Mini Masters final, coming a close second in his category.

Ben Willis, who was previously featured in the Beacon after scoring a hole in one on a par three during a holiday before the tournament.

The final was held at the Celtic Manor last Tuesday 27th October and included a total of 10 players who had each battled through two regional qualifying competitions in order to reach the grand final.

Ben, who plays at Monmouth Golf Club, secured a top three spot at the South Wales regional qualifying round and played exceptionally well. The best score carded of the 10 qualifying finalists in the eight to nine age group was 39, scored by Jason Forkings of Llandrindod Wells. Ben scored 40 over nine holes coming in a mail bitingly close second.

The winning score in this category was staggeringly good, with comparable scores to the 10 to 11 and 12+ age groups which were run over the same distance.
